Past Eclipses

Here you can get a bit of a glimpse of why we enjoy eclipse chasing by looking at pictures from past eclipse adventures.  Of course the first big group trip was to Steinheim, Germany in 1999 (you were there weren’t you?).  However there were two previous eclipses that some of us have seen.  It started for us in Portland in 1979.  After our first one, we decided it definitely should not be the last.  Now we try to go to any eclipse we can get to as long as it’s someplace we would like to go anyway. In that vein, our second eclipse was in Hawaii in 1991.  When we learned about the eclipse in Europe, we knew we had to go and invite our friends to join us.  Thanks to a lot of help from many of you, we managed to get together with about 50 friends in Steinheim.  Although the weather disappointed us and stymied our eclipse viewing, we still had a great time and enough of you expressed an interest in giving it another try that we’ve decided to go for Turkey in 2006!

(P.s.  Check here to see how we attempted explain to our friends at Steinheim why a total solar eclipse was special enough to travel halfway around the world to see.)
