Turkey - 2006

Antalya, Turkey, March 29, 2006

The plans for 2006 are still very much a work in progress. Our current thinking is to travel to the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Manavgat is the coastal town closest to the centerline of the eclipse. With the exception of Libya, this is the region with the best weather prospects and the longest duration of totality.  The coast is dotted with tourist hotels, with abundant offerings in Antalya which is still in the path of totality. Turkey has lots of beautiful and historically fascinating places to visit, so we are thinking of arranging tours for before or after the eclipse. If you have any ideas or suggestions, let us know!

Update (August 24, 2005):

The plans have now solidified. We plan to be at the Pegasos World Hotel near Manavgat for the eclipse. There are two options we have put together for visiting Turkey.  First is a great package deal on room and board at the Pegasos World Hotel for one week and the second is a 12 day tour of Turkey spending four days at the Pegasos World Hotel for the eclipse.  Please see Newsletter 3 for details.

Update (February 10, 2006):

All the planning is coming together for a great time in Turkey.  Bernd has arranged an extensive social program for the stay at the Pegasos World Hotel.  For this and other details see Newsletter 5.

Update (April 13, 2006):

It’s all over but the shouting!  The eclipse trip was a great success. See some of the photos from the trip. You can also check out some of the presentations which were given as part of the “Social Program.”
